CONSTITUTION OF GEORGIA

The text of the Georgian Constitution is presented to the reader and perhaps its detailed consideration and analysis is not necessary, but in order to present its original face and highlight the principle features we will call your attention to several basic questions. The Constitution of Georgia of August 24, 1995 consists of the preamble and 109 Articles constituting 9 chapters. While determining the structure of this work the founders relied upon the theory and practice of the world Constitutional practice, took i nto consideration the structure of the Georgian Constitution of 1921 ( from which were derived the separate chapters on Finance, Control and State Defence in the new Constitution ) and were guided by the current reality of Georgia ( that's why the issues of territorial arrangement and local self-government are not finally settled in the Constitution). With respect to the principle trend of the Constitution, all the participants of the Constitutional process were unanimous - every Article of the Constitution should ultimately serve the priorities of strengthening public sovereignty and human rights.
