The Army and Society in Georgia

The Centre for Civil-Military Relations and Security Studies (CCMSS) of the Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development (CIPDD) has had the opportunity to renew the publishing of the bulletin "The Army and Society in Georgia" in 1998. Introduced in 1994, the bulletin is the only English-language periodical covering the process of military-building and civil-military relations in Georgia. It is even more important given the country's poor record of defence studies and research on civil-military relations. The CCMSS welcomes comments from readers.

This issue contains the following articles: History of Georgian Army, covering last 10 years of army life; Current Strength, Structure, Deployment and Command of the Armed Forces, By David Darchiashvili, Where the structure of Georgian army, information about personnel, Defence Ministry's troops deployment, current problems are considered; Interview with Revaz Adamia, the chairman of the parliamentary defence and security committee, By Lela Djandjalashvili, where they speak about last year events, current budget, NATO member states cooperation.

The Issue also includes Military Chronicle which highlights The Problem of Abkhazia, The Army Life, The Army-building, Negotiations, Miscellany. The chronicle based on the information from the Georgian media. The issue followed with the Digest of the Georgian Press.
